SAE Week 11

Howdy,

This week I worked on a great SAE student production called “The Dough” which will be a web series. Janis had worked on the first day of shooting in Richmond, and I covered the second and third days at a large bakery in Port Melbourne, only a few streets from campus. I really enjoyed these sessions as I was able to apply the knowledge I had learned over the past few weeks and fly solo. It did involve miking up a number of different actors, boom swinging, mixing/recording and keeping the sound report up to date. There was plenty to keep me busy and I enjoyed the challenge and the pace. One limitation was that I was recording to the internal stereo recorder of the 552 mixer, which while very easy to use, doesn’t give us discrete channels for the lapel mics. I had to keep an eye on the actors who were miked up and ask them to mime a lot of actions that were putting noise on the dialog track. The actors were all very professional and understanding which was terrific.

Also this week my film sound company presented just a small section of sounds from the CANA episode. Although it was very short it gave us an idea of the scope and quality of the sounds that we had and how they might need to be treated to fit with the scene.
