Hi again,
This week I met up with the director and producer of a student film that was pitched at the crewing night a few weeks ago. We read through the script and made notes about the production requirements including locations, props and sound. Unfortunately the shoot dates are all during the trimester break so it will be too late to count towards my film sound company profile, but I am still keen to get more experience and make new connections.
I felt that I was able to visualise what will be required in each scene from a location sound point of view. We established that with 2 lapel systems, a boom mic, mixer and an H6 recorder we can cover each situation with discrete recordings from each main speaking character.
The Latvian TV spot is coming along well. I had a little trouble at first recording very quiet sounds with some interference form my laptop’s fan noise. To get around this I loaded the video onto an iPad and recorded the sounds directly to the H6, so the laptop could be shut down and silent. This worked quite well, and I also found myself recording fewer and shorter takes because I didn’t want to go through endless options transferring them into pro tools.
The team met up in the D24 studio to go over what we have so far, but had trouble with the picture playback. We ended up at Janis’ place at imported our work into a mix session. This was good to see what was working and what was yet to do.
More next week.
Cheers!
